Quick Tips On Bonsai Tree Wiring

July 20th, 2009 · No Comments

In order to maintain the shape of your bonsai tree, you will need to wire it up. Beginners need to know a few things before trying to wire a bonsai. Here are a few tips on wiring for bonsai trees.

Type

Wire is typically made from aluminum and copper. If you’re just start out, you should consider using aluminum wire. Aluminum is lighter, so it’s easier to bend. Aluminum also has the advantage of being able to be reused. Copper wire is stronger though. However, you can’t use it after it’s set into position.

Thickness

When wiring bonsai trees, you also need to think about the thickness of the wire. Aluminum wire is measured in mm, while copper is measured in mm or gauge. It’s best to have wire available of various thicknesses if you want to fully wire the tree.

Also, remember that copper is much stronger than aluminum. This allows you to use thinner copper wires to hold stronger branches. If you chose to use aluminum instead, you would need a thicker wire. Your specific tree’s strength and pliability determine the appropriate thicknesses to use.

Damage

You need to be very careful when wiring these miniature trees. You can easily cause damage. It’s best not to try to wire a weak branch that doesn’t seem to be able to withstand the tension. It’s also important that you check the wiring occasionally. It may dig into the bark and cause ugly scars. This is more commonly a problem during the spring and summer months.

It’s not that easy to grow these trees properly. If you want to grow your miniature tree properly, make sure you take advantage of this great free resource. Make sure you click here to start learning all about bonsai tree care.
